The value of a well-written cover letter and thank you note to the job search

When you are searching for your next employment opportunity, you need to become aware of the importance of a well designed resume. A resume cover letter help is badly needed. But the resume is not the only document that you need to create. A cover letter should accompany your resume, for the sales professional resume can be found online. Then later following each interview, you should send a thank you note. This was a simple given back in the days when all correspondence took place through the U. S. mail. Now, in the days of email, nothing has changed beyond how the tasks are carried out.

The purpose of the cover letter is to act as a supplement to the resume. When you create your resume, it has a good amount of general information about you. You can use the same resume to various companies for similar but different opportunities. The cover letter is a good chance to customize your message. Use the cover letter to compare your specific skills and experience with the list of requirements in the description of the opportunity. It is to your advantage to go as far as going point by point through the requirements and correlate your specific qualifications with each point. If you are typing this letter into a small text box on a web site, it will not be possible to set this comparison up as a table, but you can set up paragraphs that start “Your Need” and “My Qualification.” Put your emphasis on how you can contribute to the company and its success and off how the opportunity will fulfill your dreams. At the end of the letter, tell the reader that you are eager (not anxious) to meet with them to discuss the contributions that you can make to their organization both now and in the future. This reference to the future lets the interviewer know that you are seriously looking for a long term opportunity where you can grow and contribute.

Another type of cover letter is needed when you are asking for a networking interview. This letter for networking should include the name of the person who is recommending you. Also make it clear that you are not expecting the person to have or even know of any openings. After all, the networking interview has the purpose of finding the next contact to expand the network. (Of course, you need that someone in this network is searching for someone just like you.) Then tell the person the type of position that you are looking for. This is your objective. Next make it clear that you understand the value of their time and will call at a specific time, such as Tuesday afternoon.

After every interview, it is imperative that you send a thank you note. Advice on this note varies from handwriting the letter on professional-looking paper to sending an email. At times, the recruiter might ask you to email the note to him or her to be forwarded. This note gives you one more opportunity to sell yourself. Sometimes you may forget to make an important point during the interview and can bring it up in the thank you note.
