For some people, it can be difficult to pick from all the different Careers that are existing out there. For others, they may not want or have need of a steady career that is there all the time for them – rather, they might want or even require something a little irregular, just something to do every now and then to get a little extra money. If you struggle with your Career ideas and have no idea what you wish to do with your life, you should consider taking up various jobs that are accessible when there are important events and competitions being held. Quite often major events will produce New careers on their own – this year’s World Cup is expected to produce around 80,000 jobs in South Africa, linked to tourism and construction. They also produce a lot of temporary jobs as well, which are great for individuals who either aren’t looking for New careers and just want extra money, or for individuals who are just hoping to do something a bit different. Here will we view some of the different jobs various events can produce for people.
Every key event that is held, from something like the World Cup, or a major concert, to something like a local community fair, all demand security. For the large events, security is a big thing. It is a big concern in South Africa at the moment – not only do we still have the enduring threat of terrorist attacks, South Africa is notorious for its political instability and high crime rates. As a result there has been a huge interest in the level of security offered here. Getting a job as part of the security for an event like this will mean you are getting to travel the world a little, and get entry to a lot of the big matches of the World Cup. Likewise, security is called for at concerts and events, to guarantee the safety of the public. Getting a job in security of course does present some danger to your wellbeing, but typically you shall be given full training and be equipped to deal with almost any situation.
Other jobs (which to lots of people will be just as crucial as security to these events!) include caterers and bar staff. People get hungry and thirsty, and if the event is going to last for a while, food and drinks will always be made available. So someone must be there to serve them up! This sort of work allows you close up access to events, without the element of risk that comes with the security job. If you are a caterer, travelling around to these events can allow you to sample and try out local dishes, so you get experience of dishes you may not have had a chance to experience otherwise.
So as you can see, if you’re undecided on your Career ideas, or you’re not even looking for Careers as such, you can still do work which will net you valuable experience, and allow you to travel around and visit new places, and also get in on some cool events!
