Mentors versus Teachers

When comparing mentors and teachers, the greatest question is about who can give you the right amount of help that you really need. Seeing both the collegiate and apprenticeship worlds personally, I can tell you that mentors are the much more helpful ones, hands down. I leaned more in 2 years under a mentor than I did for five trying to decide what I wanted to do in college. The selection, for me, is an easy one.

Here’s a thing about teachers, they do know a lot of things but they by no means encountered these things first hand. Because of this, their knowledge base may be outdated. Therefore, to keep them updated teachers read textbooks which do contain a lot of information but may still be missing some.

I had a few teachers who literally did nothing more than assign homework, post power points, and grade papers. To them, I can actually say I got no source of success or really any understanding at all. It was those kinds of teachers that got me thinking about a career in music ‚?? something out of the norm and free from classroom life. I wanted to be trained under somebody who was actually out there working, and that is just what I got.

It didn’t require long for me to take a side in the battle among mentors and teachers. It didn’t take a lot of time for me to make a realization after experiencing a on the job training with my mentor. I was able to work with actual tools and see how things would proceed in my career. The need for me to focus on photos in books or deal with awkward situations is history. What I encountered actually happened during the whole course of my profession.

Moreover, my mentor helped connect with some people who can aid me. I was able to meet the person that is now my employer and also talked to a lot of people that helped me get references for my job applications. Actually, I do not have to do a lot of things except be me and adhere to my mentor’s guidelines.

I’m glad I made the right choice with mentors versus teachers. I’m no longer looking for a career or a difference in my life. Change is here and it feels totally incredible. I only have one desire and that is for everybody to realize that sometimes investing a lot of time inside the classroom can keep you from pursuing your dream, if you wish you can always sign up for a mentorship program and make your dreams a reality.
