Palm Desert CA is the home to College of the Desert, an excellent higher learning institution in California.
If all began in 1958 when a new college district was approved – College of the Desert was to be part of it. The campus was begun in 1959 when a bond issue raised funds for construction. That meant funds for a 1961 construction that added nine buildings to the 160 acres in Palm Desert. Some years later construction was complete and life began on campus.
In 1984 the College of the Desert moved into the arts by permitting McCallum Theater to build on campus. As part of the deal but college could use the theater. It was used as an auditorium for school functions as well as a theater to stage campus musical productions. Both the college and the theater benefited.
In 1986 the college added golf to the curriculum. This happened because College of the Desert became a satellite campus for California State University.
In 2004 College of the Desert became 40 years old. The institution celebrated with a complete renovation made possible by a $346.5 million dollar bond issue. A public safety academy was added along with other things. Work continued into 2008 when ground was broken on a new student services center.
College of the Desert progressed from humble beginnings into a top learning institution. Even international students attend this college. The College takes steps to help these international students fit into life on campus and in the country.
Whether someone wants to learn online or on campus, College of the Desert has them covered in a wide variety of subjects. These include agriculture, architecture, art, automotive technology, business, communication and more. The school also offers many hands-on programs, including internships.
